Electric Vehicles
We find that level 1 chargers are convenient, but take a long time to charge. We have seen many problems with these setups, including tripping breakers, overloaded circuits, and burned up receptacles. This is mainly due to older wiring and devices not being able to handle the heavy load of charging your electric vehicle.
Typically customers purchase their own level 2 charger and we come out to install the new circuit, and mount/wire the new charger as well. There are quite a few rebates and incentives online through Xcel and Colorado to help cover the costs of installation.
An alternative to the level 1 chargers are level 2. These are much faster at charging and require a dedicate circuit from your panel. No matter which EV (electric vehicle) you decide to purchase or lease, our electricians are more than happy to help with installing level 2 chargers.
What to expect:
Will we need a permit?
Yes we will! We pull a permit anytime a new circuit is pulled for the home. This is to protect yourself, and us. The inspector will look at our work, and also require a load calculation of the panel before he passes it. Many cities are very strict on the load calculation since so many people are buying electric vehicles.
can my panel handle the extra power draw?
Part of our free estimate will include a load calculation on the electrical panel. Basically its a big math equation based on the square footage of your house, and any large electrical appliances your home may have. This number tells us roughly what your home is drawing, and if this exceeds the main breaker of your electrical panel we may have to discuss upgrading your panel before installing the car charger.
How much will it cost?
A very common question that most people wanting a new EV charger installed will want to know. Unfortunately there are too many variables to know this answer without having an electrician come on site. Give us a call to schedule a free estimate and receive a free load calculation of your electrical panel.
